No Badge at the Top

We came into this one with Surf already on Logan the Wooper, so Jess had us check the team order before heading in. Logan leads so he can soak up experience and swap out. Jack still needs a lot of levels for his final evolution. Break Girl X, our Eevee, got her first real fight against a Noctowl on the first floor and did about as well as a Pokemon with Tackle and Growl can do.

That Eevee fight kicked off the question of the night. Espeon or Umbreon? Jess laid it out. Those are the only two options until the post game, and the one you get depends on the time of day it evolves. Since we moved the stream to 6:00 PM, everything we do happens at night, which means Umbreon by default. Break is leaning psychic anyway. Max voted Espeon. Jess is making a PowerPoint of every Eevee evolution for next week, because apparently you are required to pick a favorite.

The lighthouse trainers were a mix of types, so the whole team got work. Between fights we covered Break’s weekend at a film festival at the Orpheum in Wichita, where he found out his dad used to take his mom on dates in high school. Jess did Ren Fair, missed out on a wizard staff by doing one more lap, came home with masks, and test drove her Halloween costume: Claire Redfield from the new Code Veronica.

At the top, Jasmine. Amphy is gasping and she cannot leave. The pharmacy is in Cianwood, across the sea. So we fell through a few holes in the floor, healed up, and surfed.

Announcement

Before the surf, the big news. The Game Show is playing Phasmophobia for the Halloween episode on October 28. It was Jess’s idea, and it is the first time the group has played a game together on air instead of just talking about one. Logan is the only person who knows how it works. Break tried something like this in 2002 with a cable modem and Panzer Dragoon Orta at one frame a second, so this has been a long time coming. If it goes well, expect more of it. Max is sending multiplayer suggestions, and Content Warning, Among Us, and Left 4 Dead are already on the list.

Route 40 and 41

The water is almost all Tentacool. Maul and BreakGirlX handled most of it, and Maul got a lot better once Break remembered Shadow Ball exists. Logan went from 14 to 19 over the course of the night, which is the most anyone has grown in a single episode.

Two catches. A level 22 Tentacruel took three save state reloads and a Hypnosis before it stayed in the ball. His name is Adam Blue. Then a Mantine, which has a 10 percent spawn rate and gave us the same trouble. He is Joe from Game Sack. Fenris also dropped the fact that the Pokemon anime had a giant Tentacool episode pulled after 9/11, which is the kind of thing Fenris knows.

Cianwood

The pharmacist handed over the SecretPotion the second we walked in. Then a man in one of the houses, still shaken by a guy with piercing eyes and long hair, asked Break to look after his last Pokemon. That is Shucky the Shuckle. Jess loves Shuckle. Fenris does not. Fenris also wants to breed it with our Ditto before we give it back.

Break then walked into Chuck’s gym by accident. We did not fight Chuck, but we did fight a gym trainer, and in the middle of it Fenris evolved into Graveler. Next week the plan is to level Hoot, who is the answer to a fighting gym and is also badly underleveled.

The last fight of the night was Eusine, the Suicune chaser standing on the cliff. He wanted to battle to earn Suicune’s respect. Maul took him apart, including his Electrode. Along the way Maul was offered Confuse Ray and we turned it down on Fenris’s advice.

Next Monday: grind Hoot, fight Chuck, then back across the sea to Amphy.
