The crew walks the entire history of US console launch lineups in one sitting, starting with the 1985 NES — Super Mario Bros., Duck Hunt, Hogan’s Alley, Excite Bike, Kung Fu — and moving through the Sega Genesis, the Super Nintendo (Super Mario World, F-Zero, Gradius III, Final Fight), the botched surprise drop of the Sega Saturn, the original PlayStation, the Nintendo 64 and Super Mario 64, the Neo Geo AES at $200 a cartridge, the Sega Dreamcast, the PlayStation 2, the Xbox and Halo: Combat Evolved, the GameCube with Rogue Leader, and finally the $599 PlayStation 3. Returning guest Captain Cluster — a Padinga-era co-host with an MFA from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts — reunites with BreakmanX for the first time in years and shares an inside account of working as a strategist on the PlayStation 3 ad campaign, including the celebrated “Michael” commercial that repositioned the console after its cold, expensive launch. Along the way the group covers why F-Zero’s cars hover (an animation shortcut inspired by an F1 game and Batman), the Tom Kalinske and Sega “Console Wars” mascot story behind Sonic, and the Saturn’s developer-blindsiding release. Jack’s news segment runs the GTA 6 release date and pricing, the Deltarune Chapter 5 surprise, the $1,049 Steam Machine, and tributes to Ubisoft co-founder Claude Guillemot and Doom composer Bobby Prince. A reunion episode that doubles as a guided tour through forty years of opening-day lineups.
The Game Show has been running since September 2002, which makes it one of the earliest gaming podcasts anywhere, recording before the term existed.
New episodes every week.
